Hello everyone, and Happy 2018!
I hope the New Year is already treating you well, your holidays were great and you spent time with the ones you love.
I decided to take the last month of 2017 off to reflect. On myself, the changes that are happening in my life, my blog… you know, the usual.
It was very beneficial to me, and I am ready to hit the ground running, but first I wanted to just post a little update and a “welcome back” post. I hope you don’t mind.
I have got some great ideas for my blog in the upcoming future – regular timed posts and fun things to talk about!
The month and couple of weeks I took off, I gained some inspiration (and was a little inclined by 2018) to do things a little differently here at Jordanmwa.
2017 was the perfect year to get my blog started, learn the ins and outs and figure out where I want to take myself in regards to this platform.
2018 is about making it greater, stepping out of my comfort zone and producing content that I am passionate about. While I for my readers, I never intended on my blog being “for the readers” – it’s for me, so I am going to continue writing about what I want.
New Years Resolutions? Intentions?
I did not come up with any resolutions as I think they are silly. Why should a new year make someone change themselves? If they truly wanted to change, they could have done that any other day of the year.
However, I did set some new intentions for myself.. You know me, always intending the greater things!
Firstly, I want to read more. I used to read so much and now that I am a corporate working woman with little to no free time (just kidding), I don’t read as much as I would like. So instead of binging Netflix TV shows and taking far too many naps, I am setting intentions to read more.
And to get myself back in the game, I will be re-reading Harry Potter. Nope, not just the first one. I am re-reading the entire series!
Call me crazy, but they are my favorite books and I have only read them once, and that is just unfair to my beloved.
Secondly, I got a gym membership again and I intend to finish my first program this year! It is 12 weeks long, and I just finished my first week last week. It is Bret Contreras’ Gluteal Goddess program, which I found on reddit, but I am getting the book just so I can know the science behind it all.
The first week was hard – like, working butt/legs/hammies everyday hard. I felt the burn everyday, I was sore after every day. The only time I wasn’t sore was today, Monday the 8th, after taking the weekend off to recover. Thanks, Bret.
He adds in abs and some upper body movements everyday as well, just so you get a well-rounded full body workout. Since the focus is growing the booty, that is what you work on for 4 days a week. Since it is only 4 days, I like to add a 5th day and I am going to continue doing more upper body work since there isn’t a lot throughout the program. After all, I love defined shoulders and arms!
And lastly, and the most important of my intentions, I am going to start eating more mindfully. I want to be more aware. I want to feed my body right, and I want to treat the earth right at the same time. This means more plant-based meals. More whole foods. Less processed stuff. Definitely less meat. I know in my heart that the way we do things is not ethical. It’s not right. It’s not humane.
Why? A Review, too?!
I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to watch the movie called “Earthlings.” It can be found on YouTube. My friend Paige recommended it to me, and it changed my outlook on the food industry, the entertainment industry.. Everything.
I talked about What The Health a while back in a post.. It did not make me want to go vegan. The people in that video were incredibly biased. They were rude. They were pushy. It just wasn’t the video that made me think twice about any of this. But Earthlings did.
The narration, done by Joaquin Phoenix, a vegan himself, was undeniably captivating. While the film is about 13 years old, it is no question that this is still happening in the world. As the demand for meat increases every year, the abuse of animals might be even worse than this movie depicts.
While it was disturbing, it was necessary to watch. I think every person who eats meat should be forced to watch this film, and then decide if they want to continue aiding in what goes one while we turn a blind eye.
Just because we as a species refuse to see or know about what is happening, does not mean that it isn’t happening.
In the words of Paul McCartney:
“If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.”
Except in a more modern case, everyone would be vegan. Because the dairy industry is not any better. But that is a post for another day!
I’m not sorry.
I’m not sorry for my mini review on this film. I am not sorry for mentioning it. This is what is dear to my heart, this is what I am passionate about. And this is something that I plan on changing for the rest of my life. And I would feel very untrue to myself if I didn’t share this with my readers and maybe, perhaps, persuade one of you to watch the film and choose for yourself.
What are your personal goals or intentions for 2018, or for your life?
I hope they are different ways to be a better person and the best version of yourself that you can be!
